April 26 - 30

DIBELS

Next week, May 3 - 7, we will be administering the EOY DIBELS benchmark assessments. Please refer to the schedule emailed to you. We will begin each day at 12:30 and continue until the end of the day. Please make sure you have a space for three testers and a quiet activity students can work on independently while we are testing. I will pull students the following week, May 10 - 14, for make-ups. If you have students absent when we sweep your class please send me an email with their names that day so I can ensure they are on the make-up list. Again, if you have any DIBEL materials in your classroom, please return those to me as soon as possible.

EOG Buddy Party

To show our school spirit and support for one another, all of our K-2 classes are partnered with a 3-5 class for an EOG Buddy Party. The K-2 classes will be making card, posters, etc to give our 3-5 friends to help encourage them to do their best on EOGs. The buddy classes will get together for a short party on Friday, May 14. Thanks again for helping to make EOGs a team effort!

Accelerated Reading Update

Thanks for encouraging your students to work hard, read, and meet their goals. Students will be able to take AR tests through the end of the day on June 4th. During the last week of school students meeting their fourth quarter goal will enjoy ice cream sundaes and students that met their goal ALL four quarters will be given a chance to shop in the AR store for items such as books, toys and snacks!

Data/Planning Meetings
Thanks everyone for sharing your ideas, opinions and feedback about DIBELS and K-2 assessment at our meetings last week. Remember to use the progress monitoring results chart to target those bubble students. We have three weeks to bring them to green! I know this is a busy time of the school year, but please focus on your remediation and intervention small groups. Our students have come a LONG way since the beginning of the year thanks to you and your hard work! Thank you!
DIBELS
Remember if there are red and yellow students that were not progress monitored on Friday please do that before the end of today. Red students need to be progress monitored one more time on Friday, April 23. Don't forget our EOY DIBELS sweep will be May 3 - 7 in the afternoons from 12:30-2:30.
Kindergarten Screening
Our Kindergarten team, along with office staff, will be in the gym all day on Tuesday and Wednesday doing Kindergarten screening. Please be aware that we will have visitors in the building and possible school tours. Thanks for your help in making our future Gibson Grizzlies feel welcome.

DIBELS
This is a reminder that ALL red & yellow students need to be progress monitored by Friday, April 9. Please let me know if you have questions or need help with anything. This will be the last time we progress monitor yellow students before our EOY benchmark assessments. Red students will be progress monitored once more by Friday, April 23. The week of May 3 - 7 we will administer the EOY benchmark DIBELS assessments.

Kindergarten Screening
Our Kindergarten team along with other support staff, will be holding our annual Kindergarten screening in the gym on Tuesday, April 13 and Wednesday, April 14. Please be mindful that we will have several future Gibson Grizzlies in the building on those days.
AR Celebration
On Friday, April 9 we will hold our third quarter AR carnival outside on the blacktop area. If you have an assistant please send them with your students to help. The schedule is as follows:
K/1 - 9:00-9:50
2/3 - 10:00-10:50
4/5 - 11:00 - 11:50
Students will be able to participate in face painting, games, snacks and even jumping in a bounce house!
Calendar
As a request from many staff members, there is now a calendar in the mail room on the bulletin board with important dates marked. Please review this calendar and add any important dates such as field trips when needed. Hopefully this will help everyone to stay informed and on the same page. Thanks for your help!

DIBELS
Please remember that your red students need to be progress monitored before we leave for Spring Break. Please plan to check out a Nokia and complete the appropriate assessments with those students. ALL progress monitoring must be done by the end of the day Monday, March 29.
Progress Monitoring Schedule:
Friday, April 9 - ALL Red & Yellow students
Friday, April 23 - ALL Red students
**Please keep the week of May 3 - 7 open because we will be doing the DIBELS EOY benchmark.** After the EOY benchmark we are finished with DIBELS until next year!!!!
EOQ Testing
K-2 Reminders:
1. Administer EOQ writing assessment by Monday, March 29 and trade papers to grade.
2. Administer EOQ math assessment by Monday, March 29.
3-5 EOQ Testing Schedule:
Monday - Wednesday: Reading/Math EOQ Testing
Thursday: Fifth grade only Science EOQ
Friday - Monday: Make-up Testing
AR
Students can read and test until the end of the day on Monday, March 29 to meet their third quarter AR goal. Please encourage students to work hard because the AR carnival is going to be a lot of fun! There will be various games including football toss, putt putt, face painting, snacks and even a BOUNCE HOUSE!!!! The AR carnival will be held on Friday, April 9 from 9-12.

DIBLES
Please remember if any of your red or yellow students were not progress monitored last week, they must be done by the end of today. I will come around and pull some students to help out this afternoon. Also, I have several sync cords missing! Please check your room and make sure you have returned all cords to my office. When you need a device, make sure to sign out your materials in the purple Nokia folder. Thanks for your hard work and cooperation!

Staff Development
All K-2 teachers please sign-up to attend one of the afternoon DIBELS Data workshops being held in the auditorium at Central Office on the third floor. The dates are March 8th, 9th, 15th or 16th from 3:30-5:00. Please bring your MOY class summary report and your PLL&W manual. If you have questions let me know. You will not be required to attend any DIBELS staff development on March 30th.
EOQ Testing
The end of third quarter is fast approaching, which means it is time to assess. You already have your writing assessment prompt and I will distribute math quarter tests as soon as they arrive. Our third through fifth graders will be involved in testing as follows:
Monday, March 22 - Wednesday, March 24 - Reading/Math EOQ Testing (3-5)
Thursday, March 25 - Science EOQ Test (5th grade only)

ACCESS Testing
Thankfully we are almost finished with ESL ACCESS testing! We are hoping to get ESL classes back on normal schedule by next week. This is a huge task because each one of our ESL students must be tested one-on-one. A big thank you goes out to our ESL team for their hard work. Thanks to the staff for your patience with this process.
DIBELS
Please remember this week is a big week! ALL RED AND YELLOW students must be progress monitored by Friday, March 12. If you need help please let me know and I can block out a time on either Thursday or Friday to come by and assist. If you have questions please let me know.

Wow! Welcome to March! Don't forget to participate in Read Across America events going on this week. Happy birthday to Dr. Seuss!
DIBELS
This is just a reminder that there are intervention activity packets in my office available for check-out. They are beside the door in a green crate with a green sign-out folder. Feel free to come by and check out anytime. These can be used by classroom teachers, assistants, or even volunteers. Let me know if you have questions.

Unfortunately the Fire Marshall was not a fan of our AR display this year. We will be taking it down soon and replacing it with something attached only to the bulletin board stripes.

Winston-Salem DASH Reading Program
Second through fifth grade students are participating in a great reading incentive program and earning lots of cool prizes. Keep up the great reading! Make sure you are reading books within your ZPD and scoring at least an 80 percent or higher on each tests! When students reach a goal just email me their names and I will place the prizes in your box. Thanks for your help and support with this program.
